What is the average price of a lobster?
The lobster industries fluctuate
from high to low each season usually in the summer is when you can find the
best price for the lobsters. An average lobster retail would sell for 9.95$ for
about 2 pounds of lobster. The lobster fisherman will normal sell his lobster
to the store for about 3.00$ this gives the restaurant roughly 4.25$ of profit.
The restaurant makes more than the average fisherman every lobster they sell.
Quote from Mr. Weeks lobsterman” we get paid by a pound and it varies from
quality’’
How much money has been lost because of gas prices? Cape cod
fisherman Dave casmi says in his interview Cnn “is it even worth untying my
boat in todays economy” gas prices have largely impacted the fisherman it cost
roughly 4.00$ a gallon of diesel A boat that carries 300 gallons of diesel would
spend about 1200$ to fill. The fisherman will spend about 2.00 a lobster and
sells them for about 3 to 4 dollars this only leaves about a 2.00 to 1.00 of
profit.
How long does the lobster season go for?
A New England lobsterman season will start in April and end
in February there is not much time for a fisherman to make his profit for the
year. They will usually have a 2 month brake were they can loose a lot of money
depending on the fisherman’s spending habits.
How does the economy of the United States affect the
purchase of lobster? The economy of the United States affects the every day
fisherman for many reasons if the average fisherman only makes a dollar or two
profit. The diesel prices go up he can get to a point were he’s nearly braking
even also. If the demands for the lobster go down because restaurant’s cant
sell them because there two much money for the command person then this will
soon kill there market and the fisherman that can’t survive this wave will go
out of business.
